CMIP7 General Guidance
CMIP7 GMD special issues¶
As in previous CMIP phases, a Geoscientific Model Development (GMD) Special Issue has been established for CMIP7 “CMIP7 scientific objectives, experimental design, and organization”. The CMIP and WIP leadership encourage the community to submit papers addressing the following topics to the CMIP7 Special Issue:
- CMIP design and organisation
- The suite of experiments of its seventh phase (CMIP7) including the new CMIP7 Assessment Fast Track component
- Registered Model Intercomparison Projects (MIPs) adhering to CMIP data standards and best-practice experimental - protocol and data requests
- CMIP model description papers
- Enabling climate data infrastructure and tools
A separate GMD-ESSD inter-journal special issue “(CMIP7) forcings and inputs – development, documentation, and evaluation”, which comprises papers documenting forcing data development and evaluation, along with those describing CMIP7 forcing characteristics (in contrast to previous versions). It also includes papers that quantify and assess uncertainties in the spatial and temporal forcing distributions and the influence of forcing on the evolution of climate states across Earth system model configurations.
The CMIP Panel is aware of concern regarding the pace of the review process for anticipated CMIP7 Assessment Fast Track analysis papers. Although these papers are not suitable for inclusion in the CMIP7 special issues, the Panel has raised the issue with the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee.
